"The CottonTree Lodge was all I could have ever hoped for in a “heart and soul” Belize experience and MORE: quaint Mayan villages, mysterious caves, ancient ruins, kayaking a jungle river, falling asleep to the sounds of howler monkeys, learning about the lives of the staff, unbelievable hospitality, spontaneous extras and a true commitment by a resort to better the community in which it is located. Even tagging along with Antonio to pick up a turkey in another village was an adventure!
The CottonTree is a gorgeous little bit of luxury in the middle of the jungle. The river is the best pool ever and the river breeze is nature’s A/C. We were thrilled with the beautiful cabanas, outstanding food, exciting excursions and a staff that I would welcome each and every one to visit the US and stay in my home. We've never vacationed in the same spot twice. We want something new each time for our vacation dollar. But we WILL be returning to the CottonTree in the future to check up on the friends we made and to support your amazing vision of what an eco-friendly jungle lodge could and should be. Congratulations Chris, Jeff and staff! You’ve done it! "

"We expected to have fun in a beautiful place, but what you have been able to accomplish is truly remarkable! The grounds and facilities are just beautiful and the location on the Moho River is spectacular. We enjoyed all our activities, with the cave swim and the hikes being the most memorable for us. Learning about and making chocolate was fun and educational. A really good chocolate mousse is definitely in our future when I find a recipe. We enjoyed the good and plentiful food (especially breakfast!) and we liked the communal living. There was privacy when you wanted it, but always something going on, and always some friendly, interesting folks to talk to.
You have been very respectful of Belize, both the place and the people. Their affection is obvious, and they, in turn, charmed us and taught us much about their country and culture. Having worked in the marketing field in a service industry, I was especially impressed with your staff. I don’t remember even one instance of someone being rude or inattentive. In fact, even the workers maintaining the grounds stopped to smile and say hello---without exception! On the excursions, your staff took care of all our needs and constantly conveyed information about what we were seeing and experiencing. The entire staff (as a team) was exceptional, with special kudos to Antonio and Holly."

"I took my wife on a surprise 60th birthday trip to the CottonTree Lodge in October (9th-15th). She was most definitely not pleased at not knowing our final destination as we got Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston for our departure. From the moment we arrived at CottonTree Lodge, everything changed. Thanks to the hospitality of your staff, we felt comfortable from the time we got off the plane in Punta Gorda. When Nick met us at the airport there, we had no idea of the wonderful adventure we were beginning! The food at the Lodge and our "in the field" lunches were outstanding. Our day-trips with our very helpful and knowledgeable guide, Vincent, were not only educational, but so much fun, too! I can't begin to express to you what a great time we had. My wife, who practically had to be dragged to your place, can't stop telling people how much fun she had!
Your place is unique. I hope you can keep it so low key and comfortable. It was one of the most relaxing and interesting vacations I have ever taken. Thanks to all associated with CottonTree Lodge. I would be happy to act as a reference if you need anyone to chat with a prospective guest.
Please give my regards to Vincent, Donatio, Santiago, Romeo, Nick and Chris. They made our stay extra special."

“"My week at Cotton Tree truly was amazing. The boat ride to Cotton Tree Lodge was spectacular! What a thrill!! Everyone at Cotton Tree is especially nice and helpful. I mean it when I say that I believe the best people in Belize work there! We toured the beautiful grounds, explored a Mayan ruin, hiked into a wet cave, learned to make chocolate, braved a night in the jungle lodge, swam under a waterfall, went dancing at the local disco in PG, and to Pastor Sanchez's church in Boom Creek for a wonderful Sunday service.
The absolutely BEST part of the entire trip was the friendships we made with the people we met while there. Just as Belize has a diverse and beautiful landscape, the people are equally diverse and lovely. What a rich history and culture as well as a willingness to share that with visitors. In such a natural, beautiful setting without the distractions of our modern hectic life, I had time to enjoy and discover a place that will forever be close to my heart. I can't wait to go back! ”

“Excellent! It feels like a trip to another planet. Everything is new and exciting. The chocolate making, Blue Creek hiking trips, soft bamboo by the river, magnificent cotton trees, beautiful birds, and the jungle sounds at night. We feel truly blessed to be here. Thank you all for sharing a part of your lives with us. Miles of smiles will always connect us.”

“Of all of the places I have visited, CottonTree Lodge stands alone. There is real warmth here, friendliness, kindness, thoughtfulness. In my first few days here, I have seen more beautiful places and met more wonderful faces, than I have in any month of my life. Thank you to Chris and everyone responsible for making CottonTree an inspirational retreat.”

“What a treat! From the iguanas in the trees, to the carefully designed excursions, to the refreshing swim in the Moho, to the great meals and exceptionally friendly staff... we had a great time at the CottonTree Lodge. I'm sure I'll be returning... the silence (no freeway noises!), the lure of the jungle, and the stars will lure me back.”

“CottonTree Lodge was everything we were expecting in a lush jungle setting and then much, much more. Planned activities were exciting, educational, and staffed by local people who know and appreciate the delicate ecosystems of the jungle.”

“We leave Belize and go back to Austin, TX. Thanks to Alberto our new favorite bartender, Kendra who wrote down the stewed chicken recipe for us and was a wonderful chef. You could taste the love in her food. We had great adventures that we will always remember. Walking across the river (AKA-the border) into Guatemala was picture perfect. Thanks to Chris and Terry and everyone working to make our stay fun and relaxing. We Love Gloria!”
Karl & Susan Van Nostrand, Austin, Texas - February 2007
“I am a bit speechless as I sit here in this magnificent lodge hearing the morning dialogue of many birds and contemplating my journey home where I will be soon steeped in responsibility. This trip was truly adventurous and inspiring in ways I did not expect. No need for money, watches, keys, phones, blow dryer etc. The beauty of the country and it's wildlife are a given, but the people here at the lodge and in the villages have touched me. Thank you for making this one of my most memorable getaways.”
