Take the road west of Cotton Tree Lodge and to Crique Sarco, a Maya village known for its quality rosewood carvings. You may recognize rosewood, a beautiful dark hardwood which grows in this area, as it was used in the construction of many buildings at the lodge. Experienced wordworkers and novices will alike will enjoy visiting a traditional workshop and learning how the wood is selected, worked, and polished to produce to beautiful bowels and platters sold all over Belize. |
