Every winter, January through March, scarlet macaws gather by the dozen near a small Maya village named Red Bank. They come to feed on the ripe fruit of the annatto trees which grow along the river there. Rise early for the drive north towards the region of Stann Creek. Upon reaching Red Bank, you will meet with a local village guide and continue your journey on foot. Your guide will know the best places in the jungle to spot these magnificent birds, which are endangered in Belize and extremely difficult to find anywhere else. |
