Drive to the heart of hilly San Antonio village to San Antonio Church. The stone walls and stained glass windows stand out, set upon the highest hilltop and contrasting with the cement or thatch homes nearby. Said to be the only church of its kind in the country, this Catholic church was built by Maya villagers using limestone salvaged from nearby Maya ruins.
After visiting the church, it’s just another mile down the road to San Antonio Falls. The waterfalls and the tranquil pool they fill are popular for both visitors and villagers alike. Take a swim in the pool, or, if you’re feeling more adventurous, jump off a ledge and into the water below. After your swim, step into the shade to enjoy a picnic lunch under the trees.
